Unique Summer T’s “to die for” Direct from Kingston College

19-04-2007

The Bentalls buying team were there in force headed by Judy Cimdins Head of Buying, Vikki Kavanagh Buyer Urban Lounge, Vanessa Frances Head of Marketing and Sarah Ferguson, Graduate.

The cameras were rolling from the British Satellite News agency, Kingston Comet, Kingston Guardian, the fabulous Joyce Thornton from WGSN et al were all there to view the 1st year students work from the National Diploma Fashion course. No one was disappointed!

There were 9 brands competing for the winning spaces at Bentalls Urban Lounge area; a total of over 45 garments had to be reviewed, assessed and presented during the full-day event.

The Ranges were:

Summer of Love with “Premonition”

Brighter Daze

Diversity

Clash

Keep it Simple

Sky High

So So What

Mwah and Sealed with a Kiss

Be Free

What made this initiative particularly rewarding was the added interaction with the students from the National Diploma in Graphic Design. The packaging, swing tickets and labelling were phenomenal; designers today would have paid a fortune for some of the outstanding ideas displayed. The concepts were so impressive that the Bentalls buying office decided on an additional award for the Best Brand Concept.

And the winners were…..

Charlotte Moore
Hannah Mathiot
Jodie O’Donoghue
Jennifer Withnall
Kirstie Malbty
Shukura Grouse

The launch party for the T-shirt range will take place on Thursday 24th May at the Urban Lounge area of Bentalls. Commencing at 7pm the whole range will be displayed and all students, customers and press are invited to attend.

On a personal note many congratulations to Maia Diver, ND Fashion & Clothing Course Leader. The t-shirts were so incredibly professional and the students obviously adore Maia! Liz Ogilvie has been unbelievably supportive as has Peter Smith, Head of School – Art Design & Media and David Browne, Dean of Faculty – Design Studies.

Well that was the easy part….now the garments have to go into production!

Congratulations to all the students that took part in this initiative.
