Young Enterprise – Leading the Way Forward
15-05-2007
The students had to effectively create and run a business by opening up bank accounts, selling products and services, providing marketing plans and creating shareholder information reports et al to the highest possible level.
The final of the competition was held to award the eventual winner judged and reviewed by an esteemed panel including Susan Shaw from South London Business. The criteria for the winner was based on a wide selection of business and entrepreneurial skills including a formal presentation, the actual product itself and returns for shareholders.
The Company’s showcased by the students were:
Aurum
Dinero
Applied Inc
Vivelle
Fad Free
Vibrance
Blinc
Pour Toi
The standard of work was absolutely outstanding…the presentations ran so smoothly it must have taken hours and hours of practice to perfect. Ranging from Dragon’s Den format to Charlotte’s reality TV the presentations just seemed to get better and better. There were also excellent presentations from special needs schools Bromley College (Box Clever) and also St Philips Chessington (Sparkle).
The schools that were in the winning finale were John Fisher, Tiffin Girls School, Sutton High School for Girls, Bromley High and Ravenswood Schools.
In particular the Modesty Blaze t-shirts and the Dinero jewellery caught my eye and both have been offered space at the Enter Boutique in Croydon. Based on the 1960s cult cartoon hero Modesty Blaze Pour Toi provided innovative and good quality t-shirts featuring the sex siren of that time.
The winner of the over all event was Vivelle for their innovative paper cup concept: “Think while you Drink”. Over 10,000 paper cups had well researched brain teaser puzzles applied on them, the cups were then sold to a cross section of companies throughout the South East. However, to be honest there were no losers that night. All the participating schools were winners that evening. The standard of work throughout the schools and by each individual student was outstandingly high.
A special mention to Mike O’Donnell for coordinating the event – you must have spent hours organising it Mike but the hours certainly paid off. It was a superb night.
