Old for New: SwapShop a la 2007

04-06-2007

{mosimage}Visa Swap has been created to encourage debt-free shopping and support sustainable fashion. The more you swap the more you can acquire. It is also the first event of its kind, never before has there been a regulated seasonal pop-up Swap boutique on the high-street. Furthermore, Visa has teamed up with TRAID (Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development), a charity committed to protecting the environment and reducing world poverty by recycling clothes and shoes and campaigning at home.

Everyone has items of clothing sitting in their cupboard that were a bit of an impulse buy, a bit too big/small, now finally there will be a way to be green and recycle these pieces whilst also exchanging them for something that you might actually wear.

{mosimage}The first Visa Swap pop-up shop is now open for business, you can now drop-off items at 5 – 7 Brompton Road, London SW3, fashion experts there will give you a Visa Swap chip card and charge it with redeemable points in exchange for your discarded items. The more exclusive and unique the garment, the higher the points. These points will be spent by fashionistas at a large-scale fashion swapping market in Visa’s Swap Shop over the weekend of the 15th-17th June.

The following celebs have confirmed that they will be donating clothes to Visa Swap:

{mosimage}Mischa Barton, Thandie Newton, Helen Bonham Carter, Sam Morton, Naomi Campbell, Kelly Osborne, Sadie Frost, June Sarpong, Jasmine Guinness, Peaches, Olivia Inge, Hilary Duff, Jo Wood and Saffron Burrows, plus more over the coming week.  Every item they donate will have a label sewn into it with the words, ‘With Love from xxxxx’.  Also designers such as Issa, Temperley, Giles, PPQ, Philip Treacy, Gina shoes and Bella Freud will donate parts of their sample collections as well as shops like Harrods (even Marigay Mckee is on board) and French Connection.

{mosimage}The much anticipated swapping event will be hosted at the Visa Swap Shop and customising specialists will be on hand to help achieve that unique personalised look. The event will offer a real fashion experience with catwalk shows and celebrity outfits on display. Style experts will be giving advice on how to customise recycled clothes to recreate a new look with quirky accessories and details. Visa Swap reinforces Visa’s commitment to clever spending and avoiding debt – shoppers encouraged to swap and make only small purchases. In addition, any clothes left over will be donated to TRAID so nothing will be wasted and every garment will find a new home.
