Fashion’s Gone to the Dogs…
23-01-2008
We've all seen Scotty dogs dressed in one of grandmas' finest highland tartan
windbreakers, haven't we? We can all imagine idiotic celebrities spending more
on a diamond necklace for their pet than what's annually spent on combating
homelessness etc. And hey, I'm not here to judge (yeah right!) and I can
forgive the odd extravagant expenditure. But now as before, Japanese
fashion culture is introducing dogs to the catwalk, promoting lines, looks and
trends for dogs with worldwide events like Pet Fashion Week. God bless the
Japanese. Just when you think you've seen it all, they go and upgrade or
modify anything they can get their nimble hands on. It's shocking that
this is actually a revival not a realization, but not so shocking to discover
that yes, it was still the Japanese who originally dreamt the concept up.

I spoke to an imaginary person on an imaginary high street to see what they
thought of the escalating insanity: "I guess the sorry owners (woofy
thirteen million) love dressing their pets up because they don't argue back
about things like taste, style or practicality like their families doo. That and they know what's best for their pets of course. I think it's apawling,
it chills me to the bone to think of those fetching outfits and the message
they send out. Its fur trade but not as we know it, the worlds gone barking
mad. These designers should be collared by the fashion police; someone
call (last one I promise) canine, nine, nine quick and have 'em roll over in
their rover".
I normally include a link or two so as to allow readers the means to
investigate further, but the internet is sickeningly full of anything related
to dog fashion, so I'll leave it with you. No, no I won't you must see this – http://www.petfashionweek.com/ Go
to the photo gallery and video library sections. I don't know if the Pet a
Porter poodle clothing is funnier than the expressions worn by the models or
not. You can see they're thinking (honestly) 'Don't work with children or
animals and here I am carrying a puppy that could potentially ruin this
dress and any career I've made for myself so far by Ooohhh, disgusting'. You've
got to laugh, right?
