LFW: Spijkers en Spijkers
17-02-2008
The duo are
known for rebelling against stereotypical ideas of femininity; they design for confident,
active and modern women.
Their
Autumn/Winter 08 collection entitled ‘I’ll think about it tomorrow…’ Spijkers
en Spijkers found inspiration in the heroine Scarlett O’Hara. Seduced by the
iconic image of a muse that was both strong-willed and dynamic, the core
philosophy behind the collection was for liberated women to embrace the power
of their sexuality.
Romantic
ruffles and voluminous taffeta capes were combined with sharply tailored yet
delicate pencil skirts and trousers. Bold colours and contrasts were present in
lightweight, floaty fabrics.
Strong,
romantic elements with feminine shapes and textures contrasted with more
masculine images discretely embedded within the garments such as a shape
reminiscent of a man’s tie and a touch of camouflage print repeated through
out.
A fusion of
themes makes this a strong, unique and empowering collection.
