Professional Menswear 2008

Men can work several key trends at work

As I mentioned in last week's Des Moines trend article (click here) men's fashion is my downfall. My weakness became even more apparent while suit shopping with my darling boyfriend this week. How many buttons? What are these slits in the back?

Is it fashionable to have two of them? Are pleats still in style? Needless to say, his questions stumped me. In order to help the men in my life and expand on my own fashion expertise, I am taking a shot at professional menswear trends for 2008 based on the recent shows in Milan and Paris.

Plaid, shaggy fleece and blue collar-inspired collections aside, several of the 2008 designs translated into wearable menswear for the fashionable professional. The subtlest of the suit and outerwear trends were double-breasted designs.

The single-breast suit has been the menswear mainstay for years, but the elegant double-breast looks to be a 2008 favorite.
