LFW Sept 08 – Avsh Alom Gur
17-09-2008

The show opened with a simple sheer white shift, and I must admit my heart lurched. Used to the colour and print that Gur's work always promises I panicked. My fear was soon washed away by the colourful and playful pieces and prints that appeared. Inspired by ‘the war years, dinner ladies, aprons and the 80's', this collection proved to be not only one of his best, but also his most commercial.

Luxurious organza and silk were blended together with traditional silhouettes to create quirky wrap and shirt dresses, tightly waisted and belted sheer macs, stunning utility-style playsuits and floor sweeping sun dresses. The prints were fun and abstract, combining red, white, green, black and blue effortlessly.

For smart-wear Gur offered up some chic short sleeve jackets and matching shorts (all in prints or with print edging), while shirts were tied at the waist and had cute cap sleeves. Party dresses were strapless with sweetheart necklines and styled nonchalantly over sheers tees. Skirts had fabulously high waists and were extremely full, creating a perfect 40's hourglass. Loose print shifts were also pulled in at the waist, with fabulous pale Perspex coloured belts (who ever knew plastic could be so chic?!)

According to Gur, S/S 09 is the season to be all matchy-matchy and we loved it! There were espadrilles (wedges my friends will be super high), large canvas bags and silky headscarves all in quirky abstract prints.

This is a sassy and grown up collection that any woman would happily buy into and I look forward greatly to next season.
