LFW Sept 08 – Aminaka Wilmont
22-09-2008

The collection, which played out to tunes such as 'I'm a punk rocker, yes I am' and 'Be my rock and roll Queen', was a grown-up version of 'All Saints'. Suiting was incredibly structured, but with an edgy de-constructed vibe, with trousers going from slouch to skinny fit. Jackets were cropped, with a lot of lapel detailing and came in mid to dark grey. There was also a final appearance from my fashion piece of the week, 'the capri', this time in a fabulous suiting wool, creating a grown and edgy silhouette for work wear next season. The key pieces were the dresses, trousers and jackets, with the tops remaining fairly basic, but beautiful. Sheer and silky camisoles in pale salmon pink, cream, grey and black created a range of well cut, simple basics, that ranged from sleeveless to short and cap sleeves.

There were plenty of dresses, that were beautifully draped and had a really loose, easy-wear feel to them, but they were still ultra glamorous as the silks and nude layered chiffons glided over the models frames. Plenty of the dresses were halter necks, using leather style rope as both necklace style accessory and for functional purposes. Other styles included this season much coveted one-shoulder.

The sheer silk, satin and organza was joined perfectly by harsh leather, creating a beautiful punky, but delicate look. The leather was used both to create some fantastic jackets, deconstructed waist coats and as edging detailing, such as collars for silk and chiffon shirts. It was simply a show stopping. The colour palette added to its repertoire a stunning 'gun-metal', that both picked up on next seasons metallic trend, but also developed it into a far more sophisticated look. The final phase of the collection moved from relaxed, draped, silk jersey dresses and voluminous and draped tops to a final fling with print. This was the only print for the collection but it was perfect. The blue/white/black, geometrically abstract design was printed onto chiffon, that then led the way for a finale of androgynous, sheer shirts and a beautiful, full length maxi. And as 'Tourture Me' by the Chilli Peppers played out the walk through, I can honestly say the only torture was the fact that it had to all end.

Im so pleased I finished up my week with such a jaw-dropping selection of clothes. Roll on S/S '09, we may be getting cut short, but I still believe that the Brits know how to do it best!
