Lisa Ho

19-05-2009

I don't mean ‘just had my hair done' beautifully, I'm talking about feeling elegantly and sensually empowered by beauty. Obviously beauty comes in different forms to each of us, but I still agree there is, albeit big or small, a yearning to feel truly alluring. This is in my opinion what Lisa Ho does best, and her SS 09/10 collection did not disappoint.

There was an exotic adventurous jungle feel working its way through the collection. Her standard colour palette of soft peaches, creams and apricots were highlighted with a bold saturation of pungent forest greens and safari beiges. Which were further complemented by kingfisher blues and wildflower magentas to give quite a wild, birds of paradise feel. Ho, never being one to shy away from a print, demonstrated that no one should underestimate the power of a bold leopard print. A colour palette her loyal clientele would truly appreciate.

In true Ho style, the silhouettes and textures were exquisite, glamorous without being superfluous. Luxurious silks and jerseys skimmed over the female form to drape effortlessly onto the catwalk. It wasn't just the Maxi dresses that were employed to accentuating the curves of the body, it was chic jumpsuits and my personal favourite, printed wide leg silk pants that seemed to gracefully stream with every step.

The structured tailored pieces were a nice contrast to the free flowing draped maxi dresses. It injected a slight aviation feel to the collection. Big gold military inspired buttons and strategically placed chain beading gave a bit of an edge to the garments possibly catering for the younger fashion pack more so than her usual devotee.

Lisa Ho will always remain one of Australia's leading designers. She a veteran to the industry because she gives her cultivated clientele what they want. Apart from the one or two cringe worthy ‘logie night frocks', Ho did what she does best. Woman want to fell sensuous and elegant whilst remaining sophisticated and graceful. Too many designers try to hard and deviate from exactly what it is that the real women want. The feel of silk on your skin, feminine proportions, bold exotic colour palettes make women (whom might I add rarely get an opportunity in their busy schedules) feel like the beautiful woman they desire to be.
