WGSN – EDU Package
05-10-2009
WGSN is ‘the world’s leading fashion and style forecaster’, however its 36,000 customers will be deprived of their ‘Delayed Trends’ educational service: WGSN. A service allows users access to a time delayed version of the WSGN website and offers online research, trend analysis and a news service for the fashion and style industries.
This was incredibly popular with many students, used by schools and colleges as a cheaper option to learn about past trends.
This service is going to be missed by fashion students, fashionistas and stylists everywhere.
Since we published this information we have been since been contacted by WGSN who wish to release this statement explaining how their EDU package has changed:
‘WGSN’s current EDU service that gives a six-months time lapsed version of our intelligence has been replaced from September 1st. Instead we have made available to academic institutions licenses that include full access to the live site which will give you access to much more content and tools including:
* Future intelligence 24 months ahead
* Trend forecasting 12 months ahead
* Close to season insight 3-6 months ahead
* Consumer and retail intelligence real time
* Copyright free CADs
* Over 4 million images
* Over 160 city guides
* Coverage of over 140 tradeshows
And much much more
So that every single one of your students will be able to access WGSN and give themselves a head start in the industry.’
It’s fantastic to see how much support is available for students. Take a look at what FashionCapital offers:
Fashion Capital allows student members to access all of our members services! Including trend predictions and our archive of past trends and the opportunity to sell in our exclusive boutiques!
Usually a personal membership with Fashion Capital would cost you £175 (plus VAT) per year.
The educational package offers ALL of the sections on the website and everything explained below. This costs just £599 (plus VAT) per year and means that up to 50 students have their own personal accounts with the site.
It there isn’t enough information here to persuade you, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Knowledge Bank – The business of fashion is equally as important as fashion itself. For a designer label to succeed there are a host of business matters that have to be covered from sourcing, to finance to the latest rules and regulations governing SME businesses. The Knowledge Bank is here to provide you with a quick and easy way of accessing all you informational requirements. There are three bands to the Knowledge Bank, the central band covers the disciplines of the industry; the main areas of Design, Retail, Technology, Manufacturing and Auxiliary Services (pattern making, grading and much more besides); the middle band is for the Operations that occur within business. There are 12 subsections in the Operations area including Finance, Sourcing, Import and Export and Pre retail. The final band reviews Issues that affect the Fashion Industry such as Legislation, Trading Regimes, Ethical Trading and Corporate Social Responsibility. The subsections are updated regularly and provide an instant business control check for anyone in fashion today.
Learning Profile – The “Learning Profile” section on FashionCapital is an opportunity to promote your school and each pupil if they wish to do so to launch their name directly into industry. We tend to keep each profile at around 200 words about the individual or educational institute including a picture of you and some additional images of any related work. Students can then download this profile and use it in future portfolios to promote themselves further to clients. This information can be sent directly to me for immediate upload. We can also promote your educational institute within our main Learning Section category to increase exposure and advertise your courses to generate interest amongst your relevant target market.

Selling in the Boutiques – We strongly believe in the integration of industry into education and we can provide students with a real industry experience via selling products made in lessons to the public in our two retail boutiques based in Croydon and Barking. We can feature any promotional material created for student’s brands in store to encourage sales and create the opportunity for students to see the value of such material reflecting in their sales.
We have also provided seminars and dedicated website sections for schools.
