Tis the Season to be Sparkly
20-12-2011
With the Christmas season comes a different party every day and that’s even before we get to the 5 different invites for new year! Of course you can’t wear the same outfit to ever event but with a good mix of tops/trousers/skirts and dresses, you can easily shop on a budget and look amazing.
Sequins and metallics have been huge this season. This John Zack dress for New Look is perfect for someone who wants to go all out the New Year. Pair with thick black tights (or no tights if you are extra confident) and black or purple shoes to finish the look.

Or how about this gorgeous sequin jacket from Topshop. Perfect for dressing up an LBD or why not pair with jeans and use the jacket as a top and let your underwear peek through…sexy but understated.

£55 Topshop
If you love sequins but want to tone the effect down, why not just extend the look to these amazing shoes (very Mui Mui) from Office. Or to work the metallic trend into a top to wear with jeans or tapered trousers. This top from River Island is feminine and the pink gives a twist on the metallic trend.

If sequins and metallics during the party season aren’t for you, leather is also a big trend to have hit AW11. A plain white tee or shirt tucked into this leather skirt from asos.com (also available in red for a hint of colour) and paired with towering heels will ensure that you look the coolest person at the party. Pair with leather look leggings from Republic for a nod towards the Androgynous look. If you like mixing textures, this leather and velvet dress by Alice & Olivia is perfect. This dress can also be dressed down for the day and by adding a flash of gold jewellery on the wrist, you have an instant party update.

For a full take on the Androgynous trend follow a host of celebs who have worked the look at various red carpet events. A pair of slim fitting tapered trousers and a fitted blazer are a must to add the feminine twist to an otherwise masculine look.

Last but my no means least is animal print. Animal print always works well at parties throughout the year, thus saving you money especially after the present giving season! Snake print rather than leopard print has ruled the fashion stakes this season. This dress by Karen Millen is great for going from the office to party and is smart if the party is a cocktail affair.

Team this metallic snake print skirt with a black vest top and black (velvet or suede if you want to play with texture) and kill two trends with one stone!

Whatever you choose this season, be sure to enjoy your outfit and have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
