Glycine Watches: Tradition and Trend

02-10-2013

With so many different brands to choose from, it can be difficult to find a watch that suits you and your style perfectly.
Finding a watch that no one else owns can also be tricky, but there are a number of brands out there that manufacture limited numbers of specific watches. One of these brands is Glycine, a classic Swiss watch manufacturing brand. If you want a watch with a bit of personality and is different from the timepieces found on the high-street then look no further than Glycine.

Glycine watches where first founded in 1914, by Eugene Meylanan, a Swiss watchmaker and engineer. He had a passion for innovative technology, which gave him the goal of creating products that where technically challenging. During Glycine’s formative years, they developed a set of very small and precise watch movements suitable for ladies watches; many of these were created using precious and semi-precious metals.

First looked upon as a novelty, Glycine added a self-winding watch to their collection and the watch was soon met with increasing success. Today, these watches are instantly recognisable, with many collectors trying to get their hands on a unique Glycine piece. Glycine was one of the twenty nine exhibitors at the very first Basel Watch Fair in 1939 and they haven’t missed a year since. Glycine combine the traditional art of watchmaking with modern, elegant design. Pioneers in the watchmaking industry Glycine are still producing innovative and stylish watches from their Swiss workshop and still use the original skills and techniques.

One of the standout pieces from the range is the Classic Gents Quartz. With a beautiful classic look and design, this watch combines fifties with modern watch technology. The real leather strap is timeless and the glass sapphire crystal watch face is hard-wearing.

This gorgeous simple, timepiece would be great for anyone who has eye for design, and values workmanship behind a watch. The perfect everyday watch that looks just as good with a casual outfit of jeans and a t-shirt or a shirt and tie.
