Shop the Trend: Brazenly British Heritage

04-10-2013

You can adapt the trend for other occasions, but we’re by no means suggesting that you don your Hunter wellies for the office. We’ve encapsulated the heritage look into three easy to style scenarios, so you know what to look for when you’re shopping for this brazenly British trend.

The Office

Adapting this trend for the office couldn’t be easier, as it already has a smart, put together feel. The trick is to mix a few key pieces in with your existing work-wear. British brands are key to this trend, so wear your usual black cigarette trousers and cream silk shirt combo with a pair of classic Crockett and Jones brogues and your trusty Mulberry handbag. Alternatively, you could incorporate a tweed skirt or jacket and a chunky knit into your usual office ensembles.

Weekends in the Countryside

Spending the weekend away from the hustle and bustle of city life is the perfect way to go all out with the British heritage trend. Waxed jackets and wellies paired with jodhpurs will create the stereotypical heritage look, but you don’t have to wear it all at once. If keeping cosy is your priority, then shearling jackets are another key piece for autumn/winter if you want to incorporate elements of the heritage trend into your personal style.

Eveningwear

When it comes to evening wear, ditch the textures and focus on the colours. Tweed, shearling and chunky knitwear aren’t exactly appropriate for evening drinks, so tone down the texture and turn to the rustic colour palette of the heritage trend instead. Khaki and camel are the main colours here, but you don’t want to wear them all at once or you’ll end up looking like you belong on the front line. Mix these hues with blacks, greys and deep red tones to balance out the look. A tailored camel blazer and a pair of brogues will provide a subtle nod to the heritage trend without going too over the top.

British is Best

With the decline in British manufacturing, it’s becoming increasingly important to support brands that are still producing their stock in the UK. Supporting our home-grown fashion industry by embracing the heritage trend will keep British brands alive, supporting our economy and cementing our place in the global fashion stakes.
