Irish Fashion in Focus: Winter is coming
14-11-2013

Quoting the Winterfell adage out loud is not even a reference to the popular HBO show Game of Thrones because winter is, in fact, coming.
Autumn’s still here, but temperatures will continue to drop; however, life will go on, and we must persist along with it—that is, in style. The streets of Dublin, though enveloped in chill, are alive with people clad in bright colours and eclectic designs that would make any Irish proud. The staple outerwear these days is the ever-reliable coat, which Dubliners carry with aplomb, worthy of a catwalk show for the Dublin Fashion Festival.
The Irish Times gave us a few tips on how to choose the perfect coat. Belted ones are flattering to the figure as these create the illusion of curves; however, those who are curvaceous must avoid belted coats with thin fabrics because these tend to be lumpy. What should guide us in choosing investment pieces for winter? Marks and Spencer, the British retailer which produced “the most coveted fashion item of the season” in the form of a dusty pink coat, according to The Mirror, advised that the best investment for winter is a reliable coat and a pair of warm boots which we can make to work around our everyday wardrobe.
Irish fashion website Help My Style stated that the new trends in Autumn/Winter 2013 include the classic trench, dark parka, and printed coats. These trends were taken into account by the top ten winter coat styles featured by M&S as follows:
1. Statement Chic (belted fur collar coat)
2. Faux Shearling
3. Contemporary Cape (double-breasted cape coat)
4. City Smart (panelled city coat)
5. Cool Quilting (down-filled hooded parka)

7. Equestrian Style (single-breasted city coat)
