Best of the Summer displays – Adrienne Bush

Most stores are replacing their normal window displays with large red signs to promote their July sales, but there are a few stores who are still committed to bringing the latest summer looks to passing consumers. The key to any summer visual merchandising promotion is to use bright colors, create a relaxing feeling, and incorporate the latest trends. The following stores are able to appeal to shoppers by creating a display that reflects the summer atmosphere.
The display at House of Fraser used the bright, bold colors reminiscent of summer to attract attention. The mannequins are dressed in the latest styles including accessories. The color scheme is carried throughout the display to unify the numerous objects in the window. From the sidewalk it appears as if the painted border is framing the mannequins. As you walk around the building the window display separates into two sections adding to the interest of the design. One display sits in the window, while the other is located on an alcove above the escalators. This split design not only adds interest to the display but also lures customers into the store.
John Lewis uses a more neutral color scheme with accenting bold colors in their visual displays. The light blue background is used to portray the clear July skies or the ocean’s water. The mannequins are positioned in a relaxed manner to reflect the overall feel of their summer wear. They are also dressed in the latest London trends including wide belts and bold colors. A side window contains rows of boxes that create frames for the enclosed accessories. John Lewis draws attention to the accessories by alternating squares and creating a display specifically for them.
Top Shop has been chosen as one of the best of the summer window displays because of their use of color and theme. The front windows contain a row of shirts in varying colors, but it is the arrangement and attention to detail that makes the display so unique. Hanging the items in a wavy pattern produces a relaxing, fun feeling. The rainbow replica features shirts ranging from tank tops to regular tee shirts. Bright yellow, red, blue, and green are reminiscent of summer and follow the color spectrum.
The visual merchandising display uses coordinating strings and hangers to unify the rainbow look.
Summer is about relaxing, celebrating, and having fun. Stores that are able to portray those feelings through their displays will have a better chance of luring customers inside the stores. If you are preparing for holiday check out these stores, they just might have the perfect summer accessory!
