A Concept Too Far at Viktor & Rolf

01-03-2007

Hear about the latest round of torture that catwalk models in Paris had to endure? We are not talking sky-high stilettos or can’t see the end of the runway hairdos. No, think electrics, glass, poles and Dutch clogs. Our FC spy in Paris had a job to remember the clothes on show at the Viktor & Rolf show. He said the models had steel poles rigged up to their bodies from which they were illuminated with angled tungsten lights. Sounds like mini-me studios to go. Not only that but they had clunky Dutch wooden clogs to contend with as well. Our French spy said: “The look of fear on the models faces was plain for all to see. It felt incredibly cruel. Fortunately no damage was done and while the design duo walked out to great applause the general consensus was that it was out of relief for the models rather than the concept or collection.” Our man continued: “From what I can remember there was tailoring, checks and Dutch folk costume references but to be honest it seems rather trivial to talk about the designs when all you can think about is whether the model is going to make it to the end of the runway alive.”
