1950’s Textile Designer Mary White meets with FashionCapital

Residing in the garden of England, Kent’s countryside has evidently fed Mary’s avid passion for flowers inevitably transpiring throughout her work. Mary’s unique style and impeccable precision with repeat patterns amazed printers when showing one of her signature prints with a mere 2mm margin for error, which due to the lack of technology in the 50’s was absolutely unheard of.
Many of her designs were created in her small countryside cottage but the appeal was worldwide. Mary White’s international reputation was sealed when her intricate floral fabric creations were used in the cabins of the Queen Mary Ocean Liner and for curtains and seat coverings throughout Heathrow Airport (then London Airport). Mary hung up her drawing pins to focus on her young family in the sixties but was certainly not forgotten and now her creations are taking the menswear scene by storm in a succession of these beautiful shirts.
