The new TV fragrance ad from YSL Banned?

03-02-2011

The ad was direct by Romain Gavras and features French actress Melanie Thierry. The ad shows Thierry freely dancing to the beat of drums; it was choreographed by award-winning dancer Akram Khan, MBE. Thierry then points at her inner elbow and runs her finger down towards her wrist. At the end of the TV ad Thierry states, “I am your addiction, I am Belle D’Opium.”

According to The Daily Telegraph, YSL Beauté said it “suggests the addictive qualities of women who wear the fragrance, rather than the addictive effects of narcotics.”

The ad was previously tested in France, to French consumers who were less sensitive towards the TV ad.

Also on CocoPerez earlier today he had a poll on his website asking ‘Does YSL’s commercial simulate drug use???’

At 2,893 votes,

73% of people said NO, 18% of people said MAYBE and only 10% of people agreed and said YES the ad does stimulate drug use.

Do you think people are being too sensitive towards the YSL ad or do you agree that this ad does stimulate drug use?
