The fashion show opened with a short fashion film that will be shown on the Fashion capital website. The garments featured in the video were designed to have an element of movement so they could manoeuvre three dimensionally in the video, the inspiration was initially derived from photographer, Nick Knights work.

The Digital art programme worked together with the fashion department to do the video as well as deliver stunning and vivid background graphics to compliment each collections individualistic flair and theme.

Out of the degree collections Lauren Starkey and Lauren Ockenden both really stood out.

Lauren Starkey’s collection ‘Home Run’ inspired by American sports, was for both Menswear and Womenswear. Natural fabrics and clean cut lines gave a fresh take on casual wear with A-line leather tops teamed with hotpants and preppy American letter jackets and a quilted gillet paired with beige chinos and 40’s style riding breeches. All very commercial in a summary palate of nude, beige, baby blue, navy and white.

Lauren Ockenden collection ‘The riot of Athena’ specialised in dying and print techniques and inspired by the  Greek Goddess Athena, the Goddess of war, wisdom, justice and crafts and also ironically mixed with the Punk era, drawing upon the femininity of a Greek goddess with a hint of rebellious youth. The resulting collection had a distinctive Vivienne Westwood undertone accessorized by Westwood-esque spike horns.  Lauren used print and dye techniques on fine jersey which were very much 90’s flavoured featuring metallic prints on rusty red tie dye jersey, pleated elements and cut out work on a maxi dress in cloudlike baby blue tie dye.

Also on show will be the work of the second year BA (Hons) students in a collection of garments designed for the up-cycling brand ‘Goodone’ combining vintage, recycled and luxury fabrics. Bentalls department store have selected garments from this collection to sell in store, launching in September. This up-cycled garments collection saw lots of panelling with different textured materials. Arran knit panels featured biker jackets tan leather patches on grey jersey maxi’s.

” The Kingston College Fashion Show 2011 was a huge success with the added spectacle of digital animations by BA (Hons) Digital Arts students accompanying the graduating degree collections.  This first year of BA (Hons) Fashion & Textiles graduating students from Kingston showed off the superb design, print, knit and construction skills they have learnt during their time at the college and we are extremely proud of the high standards they have achieved.  We were delighted to have been joined on the evening by our industry guests and supporters from Bentalls, Topman, Burberry and Fashion Enter.  It was a fantastic event.” Maia Diver, Head of Fashion
