LFW S/S 14: Ashish

15-09-2013

Combining streetwear with sequins and some glamour, designer Ashish, also incorporated his usual light hearted sense of humour into the collection. Silhouettes were often oversized with ‘Coca Cola’ tops and large denim jackets emblazoned with sequins. The jeans had a rough edge, shredded to pieces, one pair with holes from mid-thigh to the ankle.

The collection played around with tribal culture, styled in the accessories from oversized, copper choker necklaces to large horned headwear. Models also carried plastic carrier bags – as if popping down their local for a pint of milk. Their hair was predominantly worn short or loosely waved with coloured raccoon tails.

The final look charging down the catwalk was a unisex look, with a male and female model striding hand-in-hand in almost identical outfits. We soon realised this was a bride and groom look, as the models kissed briefly for photographers. The usual femininity and grace of the white, thinly strapped sheer look of the female model was worn in black by the male model. It shouldn’t have, but somehow Ashish made it work, as always.
