16-12-2013
New York Fashion Week organisers, IMG Fashion, have been reviewing the bi-annual event and have made plans to put some changes in place for the upcoming season.
Catherine Bennett, senior vice president at IMG Fashion has spoke on the changes set to take place during NY Fashion Week.
Bennett went onto describe that the event, in most recent season’s was “becoming a zoo” and that a real crackdown was needed to restore the event back to its original reputation and to reduce the number of unnecessary attendees.
Keen to bring back the exclusive, guest-list only reputation of the renowned fashion event, which has been running since 1943, Bennett was referring to the large numbers of fashion bloggers and street style photographers that clutter outside the Lincoln Center during the 9 day event.

“What used to be a platform for established designers to debut their collections to select media and buyers has developed into a cluttered, often cost-prohibitive and exhausting period for our industry to effectively do business,” Bennett commented.
Tightening their ticket policy, NYFW aims at cracking down on accreditation by cutting down guest lists by up to 20%. To ensure that those attending are of importance and value to the designers showcase, any bloggers and press deemed ‘less important’ in the industry may find themselves unable to attend from next season.
