Savile Row & Woolmark A/W 14/15 Presentation

10-01-2014

Held in the Churchill War Cabinets, guests were treated to a history lesson as well as a show. The location was perfectly planned with the theme of the suits, Woolmark and the Savile Row Collection came together to present British heritage through a number of scenes in the museum’s displays. Designed to bring forward the importance of Merino wool and yarns produced and used by manufactures and tailors around the world, this particular collection was aimed at displaying the versatility of wool in garments and across different seasons.

The exhibition began with guests being lead through a dimly lit, maze-like venue, consisting of a number of corridors and rooms, models posed alongside scenery of the museum, displayed like artefacts, to add a hint of mystery models spoke and interacted within the set from behind glass.

The collection was full of bespoke tailoring and classic cuts, two and three-piece suits in tweeds, camel, olive green and browns.

Models were often styled with their hair slicked back, and accessorised with tortoise shell glasses and a cigarette.

80 different outfits were displayed during the evening, the fit of the collection was impeccable, and shoulders were well structured, without a stiff appearance. Highlights included models displayed in Churchill’s room, dressed in robes of deep red and golden brown, layered over crisp white shirts. And models and actors placed in the corridors, interacting with guests while maintaining the English Gentleman character of a particular theme or era.

The turnout was impressive with Sir Elton John paying the presentation a visit, later going on to join the models around the desks in one of the exhibition rooms.

“The presentation is a reminder of the fact that London is the world capital of masculine style, and has been for over two centuries.”

The showcase really displayed London’s true skill and reputation as the capital for bespoke tailoring and fit. Rob Langtry of the Woolmark Company commented:

“A series of posters have been created to remind visitors of the wealth of importance wool has had over time, This display shows the true versatility of Merino wool and its abundance in garment uses, richness in colour, texture and softness”.
