Dolce & Gabbana Found Guilty of Tax Evasion

30-04-2014

dgAn Italian court made the verdict on the afternoon of Wednesday 30th April, after hours of deliberation between a three-judge panel, the court has maintained its decision to find Italian fashion label owners Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (pictured left) guilty of tax evasion.

Dolce, Gabbana and their accountant Patellito have been sentenced to one year and six months in jail. However, due to the time of the sentence being below the two-year minimum,  no actual time will be spent in jail.

The designers were found guilty after a sale in 2004 where the designers two labels Dolce & Gabbana and D&G to a holding company, Gado Srl. The move was criticised by Italian authorities, as a move to avoid paying higher corporate taxes, which was soon denied by D&G’s lawyers.

Dolce and Gabbana’s lawyers have said they will appeal the decision to Italy’s highest court.
