Bio:

Leyla Memhet came over to England from Turkey when she was just 15-years-old. She could not speak English, only Turkish, and she had no formal education. From the age of 9 she worked along side her grandmother and mother and learnt stitching skills.

Leyla continued to perfect her skills in dress making and draping for bespoke garments and then joined Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) in 2008 by offering a sample service in the designer FEL shop in Barking and Dagenham; Vicarage Fields.

Leyla shared her vast experience with the next generation of stitchers when Fashion-Enter’s Stitching Academy opened in 2012, she also continued with sample making and designs for newly established designers. In 2020 Leyla was transferred to the FEL’s shop FC Designer Collective with the Islington Council’s program for Affordable Workspace which also incorporates the FC Designer Workspace in Durham Road.
