The British Designer collective Pop up Shop Exceeds All Expectations
16-04-2010
Yes it’s working, we may be in the throes of a retail recession, but shoppers know a good deal when they find it! After its 3rd week of opening the newly opened British Designer Collective pop up shop is exceeding expectations and making sales to thwart the current industry climate. Located in Bicester Village, the BDC pop up shop is a treasure trove of bargains from the celebrated British designers that have been dominating the catwalk at London Fashion week in recent years.
Since opening The British Designer collective pop up store is doing incredibly well. No one could have predicted the success of this venture as it is the first ever ‘Pop-Up’ store designed specifically to celebrate new British design talent. Some of the Great British Designers selling their wares at the BDC pop up shop include the likes of Erdem, PPQ, House of Holland, Markus Lupfer, Osman, Emma Cook, Louise Gray, Sykes, Felder & Felder, Hannah Marshall, Louise Amstrup, Maria Francesca Pepe, Goat, Atalanta Weller, Fiona Paxton and a whole host of other talent.
The British designers’ collections will be exclusively sold via the respected Bicester Village designer outlet in Oxfordshire, with reductions of up to 50%. It is a unique shopping experience, having the collective talents of Young British designers selling under one roof. An unprecedented opportunity to purchase much sought after pieces by designers who have encapsulated our runways in previous London Fashion weeks. The hotly tipped best sellers have been Erderm, Louise Amstrup, Georgina Goodman, Goat, Hannah Marshall, House of Holland and Jean Pierre Braganza.
In recent years there has been a big resurgence in home grown British Designer talent. This is the time of British Fashion with British designers coming home in droves to show on British turf including the likes of Matthew Williamson, Jonathan Saunders, Pringle and Antonio Berardi joining Burberry Prorsum in returning to show at London Fashion Week in February earlier this year. Even Editrix Anna Wintour chose to spend more time at London Fashion week, cutting Milan fashion week short, plus Christopher Kane’s new post at Versace and Marios Schwab now at Halston. This Great British home coming of high-profile Brit designers has been gradually increasing following Vivienne Westwood’s call to British designers in Feb 2008 asking them to show on home ground.
The British Fashion Council has extended their influence in backing this project which has been co organised with Major UK fashion enterprise and network, ‘Fashion Enter Ltd’ who has been working hard with Value Retail behind the scenes to make this happen.
Jenny Holloway, Director of Fashion Enter Ltd, commented…
“We have been delighted with the first week’s sales at the BDC and there has been constantly high footfall into Unit 34 during and after Easter. Targets have been exceeded and we have managed to sustain sales by achieving daily re merchandising of stock and creating new opportunities for designer stock. I also now think this is just the start of a new exciting era of retail selling – Pop up shops could certainly be expanded further with Bicester Village and their European sites!”
It seems now is the time for value retailers to really shine in the retail industry. Pop up shops, in general but especially the BDC, generate so much hype with the limited time frame of this, adding to the exclusive feel of the whole experience. The BDC pop up shop with its unique offering of young British talent has surpassed all expectations and it seems clear that after its initial 6 weeks that this will not be the last we see of the British Designer Collective pop up shop.
