Ravensbourne visit The Factory

15-02-2016
Each group spent two hours learning about how a factory operates so they can relate this to their buying course to gain a more in depth insight into the whole supply chain.
Students observing Factory Manager Chris cutting the Fabric
Following an overview of Fashion Enter activities the students were taken on a tour of the factory where they were guided through the garment life cycle and given a demonstration of each stage the fabric goes through before it is sent to quality control for inspection.
They were then asked to observe the factory floor and spot 10 reasons as to why we are a fully compliant SMETA approved factory. The students successfully noticed that we have clearly marked walkways with no obstructions, the lighting was bright and we have dedicated quality control stations.
The tour continued into the Fashion Studio where sample machinists create bespoke pieces and small production runs for clients such as Harrods, Phoebe English and a host of business start-ups and independent designers. The students were taken through the paperwork each client must produce when working with the studio and it was explained the different services we offer from design to patterns and grading to sampling.

The tour concluded in the Fashion Technology Academy where the students could observe training in garment construction from pattern cutting, CAD CAM and stitching take place.
Following the visit the students feedback included:
‘I have learnt the amount of work that truly goes into making a garment although I want to be a buyer I feel like learning about production is important, I believe the company is a great learning curve.’ Ellie
‘I have gained so much knowledge from this. I didn’t realise how many different things go in to the production process, I feel like it was really good to see certain things we learn about being put into practice.’ Jessica
‘I have learnt from this seminar that there is a massive amount of hard work in every step of production.’ Polly
‘I have learnt how intricate that garment production process really is and how many more stages take place that I didn’t know about.’ Chelsea
We looking forward to welcoming further students from Ravensbourne.
