FRA Attend Double Workshop At Fashion Enter

21-09-2025
Garment Technologist students visited Fashion Enter and the FTA on Friday for a day of workshops!
Having previously attended CPPD courses here at Fashion Enter, the FRA and students have been keen to learn more and so we provided them with just that! Splitting their day into two, we gave the students the ability to spend half a day with Melissa in our Stitching Academy and the other half with Debbie, the head of our pattern department.
Spending their morning in the Stitching Academy, students had the chance to gain practical and hands on experience with the sewing machines and fabrics, which was overseen by tutor Melissa. Taking the group through the essentials; from setting up machines to using them, Melissa taught them the skills necessary to sew a shirt and insert fastenings to their garments.
After a break, the group then went onto learn more about patterns and pattern cutting and the vital part they play for designers and brands. With Debbie on hand, the students had the ability to create their own patterns and try their hand at pattern cutting, a skill that takes precision and time.
On their day the group commented;
“Today has taught me how the manufacturing process is carried out, as well as a new way of inserting a zip.”
“My time here has taught me how changes to patterns have effects and how to deal with these.”
“From this seminar I have learnt about layout, fabric binding, overlocking, pattern cutting and the construction of a skirt. I really enjoyed Debbie’s session and have found it motivated me to learn more about pattern cutting.”
“Today has taught me how to insert a zip and how to make changes to a pattern. I’ve also learnt how the production process takes place and what happens.”
“I now know the most efficient way a garment technologist should use to communicate an amendment request and the skill of knowing fabric in order to make the correct garment.”
