‘Fashion meets Art’

The innovative FDC young designer Awards,

 

 

The Fashion Designers and Craft makers young designer awards, open to entrants 9-25 years takes place on Saturday 27th October 2007 at 5pm at the Park Crescent Conference Centre International Students House 229 Great Portland Street Westminster W1W 5PN.

 

 

Up for grabs this year is the 2007 Tyler Media/Children Are the Future Youth Award. 18 young designers have chosen classical artists as their inspiration; there will be a bold and exciting display of innovative garments on the runway.

 

 

The Tyler Media/Children Are the Future Youth Award have given young fashion designers, who are still studying for their fashion degrees, an opportunity to showcase in New York Fashion Week and Caribbean Fashion Week,  to an audience of international Buyers, Fashion Editors, Press and Celebrities and work with a team of prominent fashion stylists, hair, make-up artists backstage and the same international models that walk the runway for the noted fashion houses such as Baby Phat, Calvin Klein, Donna Karen, Marc Jacobs, Luella Bartley and Tommy Hilfiger.

 

 

This exciting initiative aims raise the profile of exceptionally gifted young fashion designers aged between 9-25 years from multi-cultural backgrounds in the fashion industry. It was established by knitwear designer Joanna Marcella, her vision is produce a platform for multicultural designers that contribute to the pursuit of tomorrow’s fashion stars.

 

 

“Our designers have been catapulted straight from the FDC Young Designer Awards right on to the international fashion stage. This year another talented designer will join them”. Say’s Joanna Marcella.

 

 

The distinguished panel of judges for this year’s award are: Christie Dinham of Tyler Media (USA), Jennifer Williams-Baffoe of Willbaforce Ltd and Formerly of Sew East, Jenny Holloway of Fashion Enter Boutique, Des Cooke of Barnardo’s, Hilary Alexander of the Daily Telegraph, Lauretta Roberts of Drapers Record and George Shire a Senior Lecturer at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design.

 

 

Jennifer Willliams-Baffoe –Director Willbaforce Ltd adds ’I’m am delighted to be invited to judge at this years Young Designer Awards and am looking forward to viewing this years talent. I think it’s exciting that young people are encouraged to express themselves through such an initiative at such an early age within the ever changing world of fashion -Good Luck to all of the entrants’.

 

 

This year’s awards is supported by Barnardo’s children’s charity their motto is “We believe in the potential in every child and young person, no matter who they are, what they have done or what they have been through. We will support them, stand up for them and bring out the best in each and every child”.

BFDN is a specialist support organisation for the multi-cultural fashion designers. We offer support to individuals and new businesses. Our services are open to all are either free or highly subsidized and are available to fashion designers and craft makers in the UK.
