A New Chapter for Newtown

Later today, 4th December, the Newtown Fashion & Textiles Academy will officially open. Located in Newtown’s historic Pryce Jones Building, the launch will include speakers from industry and the council, a Laura Ashley exhibition and catwalk show.

Powys County Council, UK Shared Prosperity Fund, NPTC Group of Colleges and Fashion-Enter Ltd have collaborated to make the academy a reality. Over the past two weeks FEL’s Senior Tutor, Ana Cover (pictured), has been working with the tutors and students on the Level 1 Stitching course.

FEL’s CEO Jenny Holloway is scheduled to speak at the launch today, she said: “I’m delighted to be attending the inaugural opening of the new Fashion and Textiles Academy in the Pryce Jones building, the former home of our factory. It’s fantastic that Ana has been on-site for the last couple of weeks teaching tutors and students.

“One big personal aim for FEL will be to create a Repair Centre in the future, using the amazingly talented teachers that we used to employ from Laura Ashley.”

A Comprehensive Look at Stussy, Broken Planet and Travis Scott Merch: Icons of Modern Streetwear

And Finally…Providing Hope

Yesterday, 3rd December, FEL CEO Jenny Holloway went to visit Helen Cox at HMP Leicester to review new ways of supporting young adults on remand.

Jenny commented:“How impressive HMP Leicester is under Helen’s creative ways of supporting people back into work. Recently Helen undertook a Dragon’s Den concept and ‘Paddy’ won with his innovative bear concept. I’m not going to say too much yet but we’re now reviewing how to incorporate Hope-FX and stitching into the prison for next year.  It’s easy for anyone to make a wrong decision in life and then consequences follow – everyone deserves to reflect and become a better person. I had so much time for Paddy and we at FEL are determined to make this program work.”

Until next time, have a great week.
