Looking for A Career in Fashion

It’s that time of year again, when A-Level (18th August) and GCSE (25th August) students receive their results. For many young people it’s a defining moment in determining their future career, however university isn’t the only option if you are looking to break into fashion.

Seize the Opportunity – FC Designer Collective

We are incredibly fortunate to have a retail outlet with the FC Designer Collective on Fonthill Road. This supports and promotes local, independent designers with exposure and sales. The shop is now open 5-days a week and also offers haberdashery, alterations and stitching support from our highly experienced technician Leyla – this lady really can do anything!

Islington designers – please make the most of this golden opportunity by regularly visiting the shop so you can; update your designs – in line with the season’s, merchandise your stock, invite customers and hold sales / promotional events.

Genieve Vasconcelos is the latest sustainable designer to join the FC Designer Collective, during lockdown she created G-Label, a unisex casual wear Collection of T-Shirts, Sweatshirts & Hoodies.

Last Few Places – Free Curtain Making Workshop

We have a few places remaining for a community, 3-day, curtain making workshop taking place at the FC Designer Workspace from next Monday 22nd August. The workshop is aimed at 16 to 25, year-olds based in Islington but age does not really apply here.

Invennt Visit & Roundtable Invite

Team members from Invennt, a London business consultancy, working with organisations who execute, commission or support the development and construction of capital projects, recently visited Fashion-Enter HQ and were very impressed with our micro-factory facility. The team is kindly networking us with potential clients and have invited our CEO Jenny Holloway to speak at an executive roundtable lunch in September on the topic of ‘Socially Responsible Fashion.’ Details to follow.

Leicester 1-Week Sewing & Garment Making Course Extended

Due to demand FCFTA Leicester have extended the week-long Sewing & Garment Making Course. If you would like to join this course places are available from Monday’s, 22nd / 29th August and 5th September. The course costs £75 and is a brilliant way to upskill and learn how to make your own clothes. Learner’s so far have gained excellent skills and knowledge.

Sushy (Learner) said: “This really is a wonderful course, such great value, the facilities and machines are superb and the tutors are excellent, you get so much support. The best course I have ever done.”

The FCFTA Leicester Academy is getting set for the new academic year along with accredited courses the Academy offers: Rental of industrial machines £5-per hour, Fashion Studio Service, fabrics and samples for sale.

Fashion Studio Update

As of 1st September there will be an update to the Fashion Studio terms and conditions. For all new production orders the Fashion Studio will be requiring a 25% deposit, this deposit must be paid before cutting can begin, the balance is then to be paid on completion of the order, as per current payment terms.  

New Masterclasses

Just added to our masterclass agenda is the popular TR Pattern Cutting Taster with the ‘Queen of seams’ Claudette Joseph. Taking place on Saturday 17th September at the FC Designer Workspace, this three-hour session introduces learners to the TR pattern cutting technique, a form of origami pattern cutting.
