Dear all,

Unique Industry Event 11th October

With apprenticeships plastered all over the press what better time is there to demonstrate how effective they are in the world of fashion and tailoring. Next Thursday (11th October) we are delighted to partner-up with the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to host a unique, insightful event.

Taking place at Fashion Enter’s Factory and Fashion Technology Academy in Haringey, the event will welcome Alex Lamb from Kilgour Savile Row to provide an exclusive insight into how master tailors really work. This will include how to canvas a coat by hand along with an inspirational glimpse at Fashion Enter’s Level 5 Bespoke Tailoring apprenticeship demonstrating the need for precise, high-end skills with tailoring’s next generation.

The event will also be supported by guest speakers Lord Young and Simon Platts, Sourcing Director at ASOS.com and confirmed attendees include Sarah Ebanja, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, Chief Executive, Lord Green of Norwood, Apprenticeship Ambassador along with Cllr Barbara Blake.

Jenny Holloway, CEO of Fashion Enter comments: We love breaking new ground and this unique event is enabling the unemployed of Haringey to understand the wide cross section of apprenticeships available in fashion today. Alex Lamb will be demonstrating the stages that occur in canvasing a coat by hand – Savile Row Bespoke style!

“Having the support from industry with ASOS’s Sourcing Director is such a result too. Grateful thanks to Tottenham Hotspur Foundation who have been inspirational in their support and we are proud to have Sarah Ebanja, Chief Executive of the Foundation attend. This is one event not to be missed!”

This is a fun, introductory event to fashion and tailoring apprenticeships, courses and careers and places are limited to register email education@fashion-enter.com

CPPD’s At An All Time High  – The Factory Uncovered

M&S, Asda, Arcadia Group and River Island…these and more have been in to undertake our popular Factory Uncovered CPPD. The importance of real industry learning cannot be stressed enough. We are the only factory in the UK that has a leading status in the ethical audit Fast Forward so we provide insights into how unethical manufacturing occurs as well as open costings, how to stop cabbage, pucker is pucker and much much more!

“I have learnt about costing, suppliers, and manufacturing and factory audits. Really excellent insight to the other side of the business and production. Good information to contribute to my next steps on the graduate scheme at George ASDA.” Roberta, Trading and Planning Coordinator

Apprenticeship Levy Reforms

As the leading apprenticeship training provider in technical skills for patterns, garment technology and stitching we have been avidly reviewing Chancellor Hammond’s latest comments sparked by the news that apprenticeships have dropped by 28% since the levy system was introduced in April 2017. Our CEO Jenny Holloway was invited to speak on Radio 5 Live, during Drive Time on Monday 1st October 2018, to give her view on the latest situation.

Jenny stated: “I think fundamentally the idea of a levy, which is almost a concealed tax that is going into the apprenticeship fund, is a good idea. The problem is how the employer can access that path and all the information that is required, it’s a whole new system and these big employers are busy people with their day jobs to do. Small SME’s are finding that they can’t access the funding streams and essentially what needs to happen is that the system has got to be made much simpler for access.”

Meet the Harrods Apprentices

Last week, we saw our six Harrods apprentices walk through the door of the Fashion Technology Academy to begin their practical and theory tuition. Emanuela, Sammy, Fiorenza, Valentina, Zoe and India will all attend the FTA once a week and spend half the day with Senior Lecturer, Jo doing the theory work followed by the afternoon with either Layla or Julia on their practical units.

New Tesco Account

We are delighted to confirm we have now opened an account with Tesco. Jenny comments: “The support we have received from Tesco with out SMETA audit has been fantastic. A senior executive from the technical team spent her valuable time working with us and provided solid pragmatic advice. We can offer deliveries within 3-5 weeks and this is just what retailers need today. Little and often drops of newness so styles are fashion forward and the POs sell out!”

Fashion Retail Academy Visit The Factory

This week we have welcomed 7 cohorts of first year students at the Fashion Retail Academy for informative Factory site visits. The students got to understand every step of the garment production process as well as understand how an ethical and compliant factory operates.

“I have learnt all about the different stages a garment goes through before it reaches the consumer.” – Georgia

“I have learnt how a garment is manufactured ethically and how a factory makes and supplies to retailers. Great talk and tour, I now have a very clear understanding.” – Ella
