Fashion-Enter Ltd’s CEO, Jenny Holloway was one of the industry experts to feature in Alix Coombs’ article: ‘Manufacturing in Crisis: The UK’s Fall and the Road Ahead’ published on Fashion Roundtable.
Jenny’s quote:
“When we started working in Leicester there were 1500 garment factories employing the best part of 15,000 skilled workers. Today there are 96 factories left. How on earth could we have let this happen? Leicester is a major manufacturing cluster, it currently has high unemployment, 2% higher than the national average, and retailers are crying out for newness and speed of response fashion.”
Jenny additionally talks about the rise in repairs and reprocessing and the need for investment in skills and adult education. The article includes further comments from Patrick Grant and Kate Hills, Founder of Make It British, and lists key recommendations that the new Labour government need to address for the UK to regain its status as a manufacturing powerhouse.

Learn to Stitch and Upcycle with Us!
If you would like to learn fundamental stitching skills to modify and personalise your own wardrobe we have a few spaces left for our 1 day workshop at FC Designer Workspace, 10am – 3pm this Friday 9th August.
Additionally, we have our drop-in monthly at the FC Designer Collective shop on Fonthill Road for free upcycling and repair advice, kindly supported by Islington Council.
Space / Equipment Rental Islington
At FC Designer Workspace in Islington have rental places available. The Workspace includes: Pattern Cutting Table, Flatbed Machines, Overlocker Machines, Babylocker Machines and Button Machine.
If you are an ex-student, designer, freelancer, experienced sewer, industrial machine user then the space, during the academic summer break, is yours to rent.
Prices:
£10 plus VAT/hour (3 Hours min)
£65 plus VAT/day (8 Hours max)
£275 plus VAT/week
