However, as a company that is 90% female we feel we have to acknowledge #WomensEqualityDay today! The Tailoring Academy Scoops LABC Building Excellence Award

Fashion-Enter’s Tailoring Academy, based in Haringey, has won the Local Authority Building Control (LABC), Building Excellence Award 2020 – under the ‘Small Commercial Project ‘category. The LABC Building Excellence Awards 2020 focus on the very best in technical innovation and construction quality, helping to raise the level of construction quality across England and Wales.

Jenny Holloway, CEO of Fashion-Enter, said: “The award really commemorates the team effort that is behind the Tailoring Academy with the public and private sector working with long established clients such as ASOS.

“Learners now have a unique opportunity to use the very latest technology to gain industry skills to secure long-term employment. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with all the different parties involved.”

N17 Creative Callings Success Story

It fills the team with pride when we see a student or mentee develop and successfully grow in their career or business. N17 Creative Callings participant Lauren Morrison has done just that with Fashion-File, a trend forecasting service, alongside her ethical, childrenswear brand Mi-Bambino. Lauren was recently asked to provide insightful trend comment for an article on ‘Business Insider.’ Read what Lauren had to say about the combination of the modest and plus-size fashion markets being the next lucrative retail opportunity. Tap here to link to the article and here to watch a short YouTube video with Lauren.

The Seam for Independent Seamstresses and Tailor’s

Another N17 Creative Callings participant is Layla Sargent from The Seam. The Seam is the UK’s largest network for makers and fashion professionals. It’s the leading destination to find a seamstress, tailor, stylist and more. Founded in London last year, entrepreneur Layla Sargent was inspired by her grandmother’s sewing skills. The Seam is currently active across London with over 60 makers and soon due to expand across the UK.

Wandsworth – Festival of Learning

Festival of Learning is the biggest celebration of lifelong learning in England. The aim is to celebrate the benefits of lifelong learning and inspire more people to have a go at learning for themselves. Throughout September there are various online learning sessions available for all ages and abilities. Tap here to find out more.

Next Gerber 3-Day Course October

Once again we have received some fantastic feedback from our 3-day beginners Gerber course. Momoko: I have learnt from this course all of the useful functions and tips using the software. It has been a very efficient day with lots of discussions about using Gerber. Great course with a great teacher and will definitely recommend to others!”

Manuela: “Excellent course, easy to understand tutor, friendly environment, good knowledge level and value for money.”

Our next 3-day beginners Gerber course will take place 7th, 8th, and 9th of October to find out more tap here. Please note this course is taught in small groups and that learners need to have a general knowledge of using Windows.

FC Designer Collective – News!

Since re-opening 3-weeks ago we have welcomed back local designer Tricia Blake founder of Diva Choice, she comments:

“Before lockdown I was really pleased to find out that I was the number one designer with the highest sales for Diva Choice (jewellery piece pictured below) and since the FC Designer Collective re-opening again in August I am totally delighted that my sales have beaten expectations and again my jewellery is the best seller. Having a physical shop to display my unique pieces has provided a platform for me to grow which is invaluable. Fashion-Enter helps me all the time too with promotion and actually I just couldn’t be happier!”

We can also offer the Level 1 Stitching Academy course from the shop on Fonthill Road. Fully equipped with three machines and our Technical Tutor Leyla students will receive excellent one-to-one tuition. Email education@fashion-enter.com for further information and how to join the course.

If you are unemployed or earning less than £20,570 a year you could be eligible to take the Level 1 stitching or pattern cutting course for free! Each course is 5-weeks long and takes place at the Fashion Technology Academy in north London. Taught by industry experts and in a live factory environment there is real progression to further training, an apprenticeship, employment or setting up your own label!

We are thrilled to welcome Francesco Vuoto to the team as a Tailoring Academy Technician. Francesco has over nine-years of tailoring industry experience in Italy, Switzerland and the UK and has a wealth of expertise to pass on to our students. He will begin with us on the 7th September 2020.
