Newsletter 19th April 2023

Leaner Cleaner Fashion

This Earth Day, 22nd April, the official theme is ‘Invest in Our Planet’ and when it comes to how we create fashion we couldn’t agree more. At FEL we have been investing in new technologies that provide leaner and cleaner fashion production and we welcome visitors to come in and see our micro factory, made-to-order concept for themselves.

Invest in Yourself

The best way to be part of a sustainable and ethical fashion movement is to invest in yourself and learn how to sew, upcycle, repair and properly maintain your clothing. At FEL we regularly hold 1-day and 4-day workshops. (The YOOX Net-a-Porter sponsored upcycling workshop this Friday is fully booked). Along with roll on/off courses at various levels.

Enrolling now:

Level 1 & 2 in Stitching

Level 1 & 2 in Patterns

Various Levels in Tailoring

Diploma in Fashion Design and Business

Tap here to view a short YouTube video about this exciting new course that combines design and business and gives students the opportunity to develop, market and sell a capsule t-shirt collection.

We currently have places available at our London, Islington and Haringey and Leicester campuses.

If you are unemployed or low income (below £23,302.50), over 19-years-old, you could be eligible to join some of our courses for free. Email: education@fashion-enter.com to enquire.

How to be an Ethical Brand

The 22nd April also marks the beginning of Fashion Revolution Week. It has been 10-years since the Rana Plaza tragedy in Bangladesh took place and Human Rights Watch have revealed that many clothing brands have still not joined the International Accord. Read more on this story here.

Our CEO commented: “I understand that buying from Bangladesh or getting your suppliers to move to Morocco out of sight gives margin but it’s so short term. Where’s the planning for the future – where’s the commitment to carbon emissions, ESG, community building – where’s all the real corporate social responsibility disappeared to?”

Next week we are holding a free online masterclass on the topic of ’10 Strategies to Create an Ethical Brand from Yarn Sourcing to Workers Rights’. Attendees are welcome to ask questions at the end of this session.

This free masterclass via Zoom takes place Thursday 27th April from 10am, tap here to find out more and book your place.

And Finally…

Check us out as the featured business on this week’s UKFT Member Spotlight. Our CEO Jenny Holloway said: “I have worked with John West (Director of Skills and Training at UKFT) in particular for over 15 years now, nearly as long as FEL and the advice and support we receive for education is much appreciated and needed. Going forward we want to work closer with UKFT and really work together to provide the best way forward for ethically made production in the UK.”

Until next time, Eid Mubarak,

From the Team at FashionCapital (Sister company to Fashion-Enter Ltd)
