Fashion’s Future – People, Planet & Prosperity

FashionCapital Newsletter

16th May 2018
Dear all,
Happy #NationalNumeracyDay!

Maths isn’t usually associated with fashion however you’d be surprised how key Maths skills come into play at almost every stage of development. From those crucial pattern and fit measurements, effective costings, product pricing and logistics, to the company accounts expenses and budgets. That’s why our CEO Jenny Holloway strongly supports STEM skill teaching (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) at school level and is a member of Haringey’s STEM Expert Panel as well as EEF, The Manufacturers’ Organisation, Employment and Skills Policy Committee.

Sustainability in Fashion

Leading figures from the global fashion industry gathered in Copenhagen for the 2-day annual Fashion Summit (15th/16th May) to discuss a hot industry topic – ‘sustainability in fashion’. Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess of Denmark is patron of the 2018 Summit and has been since 2009, she met and talked with exhibitors and additionally gave a key speech on the importance of implementing strategies to ensure positive change for all.
“The fashion industry has a goal, to transform the way we produce, market and consume fashion. It is an ambitious and complex goal and it is absolutely essential that we achieve it. Essential for people, planet and prosperity – our future.”  – Royal Highness The Crown Princess of Denmark. (Pictured above with Summit exhibitors image courtesy of the Copenhagen Fashion Summit.)

Closer to home the latest exhibition at the V&A in London explores the very complex relationship between fashion and the natural world. It clearly and visually represents our fashion history and how the industry needs to implement change to tackle the many environmental issues head on. Click here to read FashionCapital’s review of this exhibition.
