UKFT Conference 2024 – Discusses Tackling Textile Waste in the UK

15-10-2024

On 26th September, Fashion-Enter Ltd’s Founder and CEO, Jenny Holloway was invited to speak and join industry peers at the UKFT’s Sustainability Conference 2024

This all-day, industry-only event built on the success of the 2023 and 2022 Sustainability Conferences to discuss ‘Tackling Textile Waste in the UK: Legislation, Impact and Solutions’. The agenda was packed with a variety of speakers discussing the latest updates and developments in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and recycling initiatives in the UK.

From how EPR could work in fashion to post consumer textile collection trials, the conference was specifically tailored to offer UK brands and retailers’ compliance and sustainability teams, recyclers, government, universities and other organisations the tools they need to tackle textile waste in the UK.

Jenny (pictured above, second from right) joined Tim Cross, Plan B/Circular Textiles Foundation and Tony Burns, ACS, to discuss ‘Solutions Beyond Waste Management’ before Adam Mansell from the UKFT wrapped up the event with ‘What comes next?’

The event highlighted an urgent need to address a viable circularity system for the fashion sector as carbon footprints, virgin textile production, water footprints and post-consumer waste have reached unsustainable levels.

During the conference the UKFT unveiled a groundbreaking White Paper, backed by industry, urging the government to implement variable Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees immediately to drive sustainability and establish a circular economy in the UK fashion and textiles sector.
