Online Masterclass: Fashion’s Disgrace – Waste Mountains and How to Make Sure Your Brand is Waste Free
19-05-2026
On 18th May, a highly engaging and thought-provoking masterclass titled Fashion’s Disgrace – Waste Mountains and How to Make Sure Your Brand is Waste Free brought together fashion students, emerging brands and industry professionals to explore one of the fashion sector’s biggest challenges: waste.
The session was led by Jenny Holloway, CEO of Fashion-Enter Ltd, alongside Anastasia Vouyouka from Telestia.
A total of 26 attendees participated in the masterclass, with feedback being overwhelmingly positive. Several attendees expressed interest in receiving further one-to-one advice and support following the session, highlighting the relevance and impact of the content delivered.

Jenny Holloway opened the masterclass by introducing the work of Fashion-Enter Ltd and discussing the organisation’s commitment to sustainability through the “6 R’s” approach:
- Repurpose
- Repair
- Reprocessing
- Recycle
- Reduce
- Recommercialise
Using practical examples from industry practice, Jenny demonstrated how these principles are already being implemented within manufacturing and product development to reduce waste and extend garment life cycles.

The session then focused on Anastasia Vouyouka’s insights into the three levels of waste currently impacting the fashion industry.
The first level examined was pre-production waste, an area that often goes unmeasured and unaccounted for. Anastasia highlighted how multiple design concepts, excessive sampling and inefficient product development processes contribute significantly to waste before production even begins. She discussed how many graduates leave leading fashion universities without the technical skills required to create quality, well-fitting garments, resulting in avoidable inefficiencies later in the process.

Anastasia demonstrated how the Telestia method supports brands and manufacturers through accurate measurement systems that account for fabric tension and fit, helping to streamline communication between designers and manufacturers while reducing unnecessary sampling and production errors.
The second level of waste explored was production waste, where garments fail due to poor fit, styling or technical execution, often leading to rejected stock or unsold inventory.
The third level focused on consumer waste, where low-cost purchasing habits and poor-quality garments contribute to excessive disposal and growing textile waste. The discussion encouraged attendees to reflect on consumer behaviour, product quality and long-term garment value.
Throughout the interactive session, attendees explored:
- The true scale of fashion waste globally
- Fast fashion and overproduction
- Product development inefficiencies
- Supply chain pressures
- Waste reduction through better design and manufacturing
- Digital solutions and education
- Real industry examples and innovation

The session also addressed the future of sustainability legislation and accountability within fashion, including EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) and Digital Product Passports (DPP).
The masterclass concluded with an introduction to how Telestia supports brands, professionals and learners through education, technology and practical solutions, which was reinforced by individuals currently working in the industry commenting on how beneficial, with speed and accuracy, the Telestia method has been for them.
The event successfully provided attendees with valuable industry insight, practical strategies and actionable steps to help reduce waste at every stage of the fashion lifecycle. The strong engagement throughout the session and requests for additional one-to-one support demonstrated a clear appetite for continued learning and sustainable innovation within the sector.
