MP Catherine West – Visits FEL in Support of UK Manufacturing

On 29th January 2024 Labour Member of Parliament, Catherine West, attended a meeting at Fashion-Enter Ltd’s HQ in Haringey, London.

The meeting was arranged by Fiona Gooch, Senior Policy Adviser at Transform Trade and Hilary Marsh, Garment Policy Advisor Transform Trade, with the aim of highlighting the advantages of making ethical and sustainable production in the UK.

Catherine West, Labour MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, was also joined by Jenny Holloway, Founder and CEO of Fashion-Enter Ltd, as well as two apprentices from Next.

The discussion centred on circularity and the support needed for positive growth within Leicester’s established manufacturing network. Reviews also took place regarding future legislative developments such as EPR and current ESG policies.

Workers’ rights is still a major area for review however there needs to be a meeting for both retailers and suppliers so a positive way forward can derive.

Catherine kindly invited apprentices and FEL learners to visit the House of Commons and a date is now being arranged. This is a great way forward to hear the voices of people that will be the future of the fashion industry.

Jenny Holloway said: “The UK garment manufacturing sector has so much to offer especially in Leicester where circularity already exists. At FEL we’re committed to Leicester and bringing high level skills to support future growth intentions.

“It was absolutely brilliant that our two apprentices from Next were here on a training day too. Both of you were spot on with your comments and review of the industry. Too proud!

“Here’s to the future!”

A big thank-you to all that attended.
