Made in Wales – The Fashion Event – 8th July

02-05-2022

Join us, Fashion-Enter Ltd, for an exciting showcase of fashion talent based in the heart of mid-Wales.

On Friday 8th July we will be showcasing the regions textile and fashion talent by combining Fashion-Enter’s manufacturing expertise with creatives from NPTC Group of Colleges – Newtown College and local independent designers.

Newtown is steeped in fashion and textile history from the pioneer of mail order Pryce-Jones to the home of Laura Ashley the area is synonymous with the production of wool and high quality garments.

The Fashion Event will celebrate both manufacturing and design to put Newtown and ‘Made in Wales’ firmly back on the fashion map. The day long event will be open to local schools, where there will be informal sessions on the garment making process, manufacturing, skills and careers in the fashion industry.

Two fashion shows will follow showcasing a diverse range of design talent, created in collaboration with the manufacturing team at Fashion-Enter Ltd and utilising the innovative Kornit Digital Presto printer. The day will culminate in a grand finale at 7pm with a party.

Fashion-Enter Ltd CEO Jenny Holloway comments: “We’ve now been located in Newtown for two-years and this has been a fantastic experience working with the NPCT Group of Colleges and meeting a broad selection of textile and fashion designers. Quite frankly we couldn’t believe the talent that is here in mid-Wales and its time to showcase some of the finest designers that we’ve found. Let’s remember that this is the birthplace of Laura Ashley, who attended Newtown College and also the original home of mail order with Pryce-Jones himself. There is so much to offer with fashion from Wales today and with a new sustainability angle that we are doing with SMARTCryum project – we just had to host an event. This will be an exciting and unique showcase for the region.”

Carys Jones from NPCT Group of Colleges added: “As an Art & Design Lecturer at Newtown College, I am extremely proud to be working with Fashion-Enter Ltd. This event is giving our students a unique opportunity to develop their creative work whilst working closely with a valuable local company. It is creating real career opportunities for them. There is a buzz in the department as we work on colourful and contemporary designs that nod to the legacy of fashion and textiles here in Mid-Wales and step forward to a bright new era, making Newtown the Welsh Capital of Fashion… once again.”

Made in Wales – The Fashion Event will take place Friday 8th July at Focus Enterprise Hub, 3rd Floor, Pryce Jones Building The Royal Welsh Warehouse, 17 Old Kerry Road, Newtown, Powys, Wales SY16 1BJ.
