FEL Joins Re – London Roundtable Discussion on Reuse & Repair
06-11-2024
In line with Circular Economy Week 2024 (30th Sept – 6th Oct) Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) was invited by Re-London to join a roundtable discussion on: Catalysing Investment into Reuse and Repair, delivered in partnership with SUEZ.
In attendance were a varied selection of companies ranging from garment production, tech, such and laptops and phones, as well as a large white goods brand.
The main focus was around 2 key areas, customer attitudes to repair and the roadmap to move from recycling to reuse & repair.
The discussion covered:
- Suggestions such as removing VAT to make repairs more affordable
- Business rate reductions to support companies in reuse & repair – one London council is already working to support green businesses in this area
- Enforcing minimum warranty period when purchasing new
- Support for green jobs, the need for a circular economy workforce
- Accreditation to support tested repairs (within tech)
- Local repair schemes in community hubs
Going back to the source developers need to design out waste and incorporate recyclability, creating items that can easily be repaired.
Currently there are targets for recycling but how do you create targets for repair? These can be more difficult to track. Additionally, moving to repair could have a knock-on effect to recycling targets.
More from this discussion will be published in due course. Thank-you to Re-London for inviting FEL to this important roundtable discussion.
