31-05-2022
On Sunday 29th May FAB-L (Fashion Workers Advice Bureau – Leicester) held its first family fun day for Leicester’s garment workers at the Highfields Centre. The event provided the chance for attendees and information stallholders, including FCFTA Leicester, to engage on a variety of issues from workers rights to courses. The informal event also included keynote speakers from trade unions, brands and NGO’s and rounded off with networking and a complimentary hot lunch.
FAB-L aims to engage garment workers from Leicester, who are in need of help and support, especially when it comes to functional skills & entry level education, workers’ rights, employment law, health & safety at work and welfare rights.
FCFTA Leicester were invited to have a stand at the event, Divya from the FCFTA Leicester said:
“It was great to part of FAB-L launch event on Sunday 29th May at Highfields Centre. It really was wonderful day out with family and community engagement. FCFTA Leicester were invited to attend as we provide skills to individuals to work in garment factories.
“FAB-L is a Fashion Advice Bureau, it supports garment workers by way of giving advice and welfare support. Leicester is a manufacturing hub and it is really good to have organisation locally to support these workers. It was excellent to know that this organisation is well supported by brands and unions etc. FCFTA positively promotes FAB-L within the Academy and in factories when we deliver our course on Level 1 Workers’ Rights and Labour Exploitation. We continue to support them on this good cause.”
