Fashion Inside Out: Five Minutes with Elle Argyroy Head of QC at Fashion Enter

Q What time does your alarm go off? 

E 6.10am

Q What’s a typical day like for you?

E I Amend patterns throughout the day and check everything is running smoothly on the factory floor looking for any issues with quality, I help out in general with the studio and pattern room. I occasional go out to fitting sessions with our clients if we are having issues with the fit of a garment.

Q Tell us about your career route, where did it all start for you? 

E I went to Southgate Technical collage and did a Btec national diploma before getting my first job at Barry Artists as a design room assistant, I loved it being my first job working in fashion, they were one of the big guns of manufacturing in those days!

Q And did you spend any time completing work placements / experience? 

E No, but I helped out my uncle during school holidays in his factory, I used to do a bit of everything from bagging the garments to laying up and finishing the garments, I would do anything really as I absolutely loved it and it really infused my passion to work in the industry.

Q What key skills / attributes would you say are essential for this role? 

E You need a good eye and plenty of pattern cutting experience.

Q What is your most memorable work moment? 

E Dressing up as Michael Jackson to cheer up the pattern room.

Q What is the worst part of the job? 

E Production gone wrong, that cannot be put right.

Q Best piece of advice you have been given? 

 E Always listen to advice given, then decide if you want to use it.

Q Is there anyone in the fashion sector that you think is inspirational? 

E Patsy and Edina. They made everyone aware of the designers of that time, especially Lacroix!

Q After work you like to…

E Hang with the kids and play hockey.
