Accredited Training Provider for the BehindBras Initiative
15-08-2019
We are delighted to be working with Barbara Burton, Founder and David Jones, Head of Fashion on the BehindBras Fashion Foundation, an initiative that supports and provides opportunities for serving and former female prisoners. BehindBras helps to close employment gaps in fashion and the creative industries helping to build an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. A crowdfunding launch event will take place at HMP Brixton on Tuesday 17th September and our CEO Jenny Holloway will be there as a guest speaker.
Jenny comments: “I have been working with Barbara for over several years to establish BehindBras Fashion Foundation and I have to give credit to Barbara for her absolute commitment and steadfastness to create a new form of social enterprise that provides stitching skills primarily for women prison-leavers that then leads to career to creating lingerie. It is not easy finding the funding for any new business but Barbara has been successfully canvassing and we are now almost there! We look forward to being the accredited training provider to support Barbara on her journey and wish her lots of success.”
The Stakeholders Event on the 17th September will provide the ideal opportunity to network and make connections with organisations and influencers in the fashion, criminal justice, equality and employment sectors. Attendees will enjoy a three-course meal in the exclusive Clink Restaurant as well as meet a range of guest speakers and hear presentations from leaders who support the initiative. Further dates at HMP Styal, Cardiff and High Down will be open to the public.
The BehindBras vision is a future where socially excluded women have the skills, knowledge and opportunities to succeed in a society that others enjoy, doing the work they love in addition to having the benefits that come from this.
BehindBras Aims to:
- Give each woman a sense of purpose, practical knowledge and self-belief to support themselves and their families.
- Give families stability through the promise of paid work at the end of the programme.
- Teach former prisoners the value of education and training.
- Reduce re-offending rates among participants through employment opportunities.
- Deliver significant savings to society through a reduction in re-offending rates.
