A big thanks to all that attended our Fashion Technology Academy (FTA) soft launch last Thursday. The feedback and positive energy coming from everyone that attended said it all. The unit is already in use and we have more courses scheduled over the coming months, which will be posted in our weekly newsletters and on www.fashioncapital.co.uk. A big thank-you to Haringey Council, who have invested a sum of £570,000, DWP and global e-tailer ASOS.com for making this essential industry facility a reality.

Starter Courses at The FTA

Following the official launch of the FTA last week, the 7,500 Sqft space is home to 8 new fashion courses, combining trainers with expert practitioners and the latest, state of the art dress-making equipment.

Giving members of the public a sneak peek and taster into what the FTA has in store, we have created three courses, specifically designed to be fun, creative and helpful.

There are three short courses each part-time over three days: 

Absolute Beginners: This practical workshop for beginners will give you the essential tools and knowledge to take on any sewing challenge.

SOS Sewing Alterations: Creative and fun workshop, bring some garments you’d like to transform and learn some invaluable sewing, customising and alteration skills.

Bonkers for Bags: are you bonkers for bags? Come and join our creative group design and make your own Tote bag and learn new skills and techniques too!

Wednesday 8th April 2015

Thursday 9th April 2015

Friday 10th April 2015

Then again on:  

Monday 13th April 2015

Tuesday 14th April 2015

Wednesday 15th April 2015

Times are 10am – 1:30pm daily and will be held at the newly launched, Fashion Technology Academy.

FTA, Unit 13, Crusader Estate, 167 Hermitage Road, N4 1LZ. 

These courses have been specifically designed to be fun, creative and helpful! You will be taught by experts who have years of experience in Stitching and Pattern Making.

Full payment of the course is required to reserve your place. The cost for the 3-hour classes is £45 (plus VAT)

Know Your Factory – 23rd April 10am – 12pm

1 april factory overviewDo you know what to look for and what questions to ask when working with your manufacturer?

In this workshop learn the basic process for manufacturing and what the key elements are to look for:

Pre-planning the visit, setting an agenda and what you really want to achieve.

Communicate to the factory and to your own team.

Tell the factory and confirm; get the right people involved.

Show respect and understanding.

Provide feedback to the factory.

What are the key elements to a costing? Cost of fabric (price V’s usage) make-up costs, trims, logistics.

Types of sampling – design and product development, fits and contract seals.

How samples are generated?

Cost of a sample, getting approvals and speed of response

And much more!

Perfect Pattern Cutting – Free 6-Week Course

The Perfect Pattern Cutting 6-week course is back! Following the huge success of the previous cohort, Alice Prier, Fashion Enter’s senior pattern cutting will be joining forces with expert pattern-making methodology Telestia to teach you how to construct and create both basic and advanced garments.

The 6-week course runs part-time from Monday to Friday, from 10am-2pm.

Your Body: Your Block – Pattern Cutting Course

By popular demand after the success of the ‘revolutionary’ Pattern Cutting course, FashionCapital’s Senior Pattern Cutting expert, Alice Prier will be holding short, one-day courses to teach new learners how to construct and create patterns.

The short, 5 hour class will run from 10am-3pm in the newly launched, Fashion Technology Academy, which will be fully equipped with pattern-making facilities. The course will condense the best and most important information of the full 5-day Perfect Pattern Cutting course following a soar in demand for a short alternative at the Knitting & Stitching show.

– Construct a sample to fit your measurements

Congratulations to ASOS.com, their latest financial results reveal a steady recovery with its half-year figures showing an increase in retail sales by 14 per cent.The results follow up from better than expected quarterly figures, recovering from a series of profit downgrades in a challenging year.

Cult of Fashion are looking for a bright, organised and highly motivated individual to take on the role of Product Coordinator on an ad-hoc basis throughout the organisation of a diverse range of fashion shows and photo shoots.

As a Product Coordinator you will be responsible for the daily liaison between jewellery and accessories suppliers as well as corresponding with fashion designers. You will be working very closely with the stylist on each project so strong communication skills are absolutely essential within this role.

The ideal candidate must have strong administrative skills and have a keen interest in the fashion industry. You must have excellent communication skills and a good telephone manner. You must also be highly efficient using Microsoft Excel and Word.
