Newsletter 27th July 2016

Dear all,

In a week where Michelle Obama, the first lady, declared ‘Because of Hilary Clinton, my daughters take for granted that a women can be president’ we celebrate the rising success of women increasingly becoming global leaders and ask could 2016 be the year women change the world?

As a female owned organisation with a predominantly female workforce we are proud to be producing high quality garments for clients such as ASOS, M&S and Finery as well as independent designers and new business start-ups. This week we have invited British Prime Minister Theresa May to visit our factory to witness peak production with a migrant workforce. Central St Martins commented in the Evening Standard ‘Brexit? We’re still world leaders and it’s business as usual!’  We couldn’t agree more!

Michaela Jedinak at Scoop in the City!

This week we attended Scoop in the City, a high end trade show showcasing a host of designers from across the globe. We were delighted to see our Fashion Studio client Michaela Jedinak exhibiting her dress collection, all designed and produced to flatter the female form. On attending Scoop this year Michaela commented: ‘Without Jenny Holloway I wouldn’t be here at Scoop London with a confident collection’ Two strong female entrepreneurs in the world of fashion!

Stitching Academy for Tomorrow’s Designers

Last week we opened the doors to our factory and invited candidates interested in taking the Level 1 Stitching Academy for Tomorrow’s Designers or the Level 1 Perfect Pattern Cutting Course – a free six week course available to unemployed residents living in Tower Hamlets, Newham, Islington, Waltham Forest and Hackney with thanks to Creative Skillset and the JP Morgan Foundation.

“Thank you again to everyone at Fashion Enter for a great day, everyone I spoke to really enjoyed it and I learnt so much too!” Kay Verdon, Creative Skillset

“The event gave the ability to hear and learn about all of the different courses available at Fashion Enter – seeing behind the scenes of a factory was the best thing about today.” Tina Panchal

To join the Level 1 Stitching Academy at The Fashion Technology Academy email education@fashion-enter.com now.

Brand Director of Finery praises the FTA

caren downie

Caren Downie spent 9 ½ years working closely with Jane Shepherdson to make Topshop one of the most respected global fashion brands.

She then joined ASOS as the company’s Fashion Director; she was part of the team that took the brand to global credibility and recognition but in 2014 to spearhead independent projects. Today she is founder and Brand Director of leading British label Finery London.

Fashion Enter’s Fashion Technology Academy is a much needed practical training centre that is the only one of its kind in Europe. Twinned with a live working factory that makes for us at Finery, M and S (Best of British), Asos and many smaller brands such as House of Holland and new business start-ups anyone learning at the FTA will be provided with excellent skills training.  The reshoring of production back to the UK means that the FTA is absolutely vital for work based learning today.’

June Sarpong MBE

June Sarpong Headshot

In 2015 June Sarpong MBE awarded Jenny Holloway and Fashion Enter the Community Award at the fifth Women: Inspiration and Enterprise (WIE) awards.

Since then we have been working closely with June who also fully supports our training and production capabilities:

‘Fashion Enter’s training is superb as is their production.  I believe the fashion industry offers so many different employment opportunities but what it lacks is real diversity. Fashion Enter’s fantastic Stitching Academy addresses both of these issues, practical training for people from diverse background to able to seek jobs in fashions.  Fashion Enter really is a pearl working hard to upskill a future generation of machinists, pattern makers, graders, quality controllers and of course designers.  I’m proud to be supporting the Fashion Technology Academy – a first for Europe and the brain child of Jenny Holloway and her superb team at Fashion Enter.’

We are honoured to receive such strong messages of support from two leading women in British fashion and business.

This Week on Fashioncapital.co.uk

purelondon

We slam Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn for the production of campaign T-shirts in a Bangladeshi factory where workers are paid just 30p an hour.

Corbyn should be looking closer to home and using a fully compliant ethical factory in the UK to produce his campaign T shirts.  We invite him to visit our Factory in North London!

We visited Pure London and took notes from Creative Director of Caulder Moore, Maria Correia on ‘How the Millennial Generation are Changing the Fashion Landscape’, we also learnt from Navaz Batliwalla, Blogger Disneyrollergirl ‘How to Work with Influencers and introduced as ‘fashions leading commentator’ Dylan Jones took to the main stage at Pure London, held at Olympia to discuss London, and the influence the city has on the rest of the world, especially within the fashion industry.
