Dear all,

Breaking News at FashionCapital HQ…

Along with our highly successful apprenticeship programme we have just been given the green light with a new ‘Stitching Academy’ – the first of its kind in the UK! This new concept has been supported by grant funding from the Department of Work and Pensions via Job Centre Plus enabling unemployed people to acquire accredited Level 1 Stitching Skills in line with the growing demand for the Made in Britain label.

The Stitching Academy is a pre-apprentice programme and this will enable successful participants to move towards a full apprenticeship if required or directly into employment specifically in the manufacturing sector. Just what the UK manufacturing sector needs and we are very excited to be involved with the programme.

Jenny Holloway, Managing Director, comments: “We are so delighted that the DWP and Haringey Council have both supported our application to bring real qualifications for stitching and machine skills that can fill the current job vacancies in garment manufacturing today.”

In line with the new academy and the 22 apprenticeship places currently on offer with our apprenticeship programme Jenny Holloway and the FashionCapital team have been visiting schools such as Park View and Northumberland Park in North London to enlighten and inform students about the opportunities in the fashion and manufacturing sector.

More information on the Stitching Academy will be posted up on FashionCapital over the next few days.

River Island Apprenticeship

The first set of interviews for the River Island Apprenticeship have now taken place and 15 lucky candidates have been selected to go through to the second stage interviews with River Island at their head office. On Monday 13th May River Island will spend the day screening the potential apprentices with a view to selecting the five they want to hire as the first ever apprentices taken on by the high street giant!

We are confident the 15 will do an excellent job! Good luck to all the candidates!

Trial before you hire!

If you are thinking about taking on an apprentice for your business you now have the opportunity to trial a group of candidates for FREE for up to seven weeks!

This means you can take on as many as four candidates to work for you for free with the intent of hiring at least one as your full-time apprentice. This is through the Employment Ownership Programme and it enables the candidates to be paid £3.50 per hour without you being out of pocket!

This is a fantastic scheme for both employers and potential apprentices as it ensures you hire the right person for your company.

If you would like further information on the apprenticeship programme and how you can take part in this scheme please email jenni@fashion-enter.com
