Newsflash – asos.com to sponsor NY Profile! 

FashionCapital is delighted to announce leading online etailer will be sponsoring NY Profile in New York City on 10th and 11th September.
 ASOS will be flying out a strong representation from the buying team.

Designers this is your big opportunity! Not only will you be showcasing your collection in New York City during New York Fashion Week but buyers from the hit etailer asos.com will personally be reviewing your label!
 The response has been outstanding but with only 35 designers across ladieswear, menswear and accessories spaces are limited.  

There is still time to apply but you do need to get your application forms in fast.

£500 Subsidy 

In further news for NY Profile each chosen designer will receive a £500 subsidy toward the cost.  

FashionCapital will also be on hand to provide step by step guidance and support. We appreciate this will be a first for many designers so information on booking flights, accommodation, couriers and the exhibition will prove invaluable. 
 

Our dedicated section for NY Profile on FashionCapital contains all important information to date and will regularly be updated.

Are you Export Ready?  

On 4th September FashionCapital will be holding a seminar on exporting and supplying overseas customers. For all designers selected for NY profile this will provide key advice for the impending trip to New York. 
 

This will include a review of what is required before, during and after the NY profile event, an overview of the NY/American market and guest speakers Eimear Hawker from Topshop and Nigel Rust from LMAS.
 

The seminar will take place at the City Fringe Marketing Suite. There are a limited number of spaces available and it is postcode specific, however there will be opportunities for those who live outside the area.

Calling All Womenswear Designers

Fashion Enter designers are on a roll with one of the only retailers continuing an increase in profits at the end of the second quarter. Yet again, the monumentally prestigious ASOS.com has announced they wish to revisit Enter Boutique for a third time next week to view designers AW collections to place an order for Christmas.

Workshops and Seminars 

On 26th August a series of self enhancement workshops and seminars will take place in Vicarage Field Shopping Centre in Barking and Dagenham.  The four day event will see industry experts providing a unique insight into their specialist area with exclusive advice and top tips.
 

There will be something for everyone with workshops including how to set up your own business, personal branding and confidence building, catwalk techniques, how to be a fashion photographer and hair and beauty. For the full timetable please click here.

The Face of Barking and Dagenham – Model Search
 

The search goes on for the unknown hopeful who will be crowned Face of Barking and Dagenham and will grace the catwalk in New York City at NY Profile. The competition has now been coincided with Vicarage Field’s very own Model Search to find 3 females and 3 males to receive a photo shoot and appear in the VF Christmas catalogue.

The inhabitants of Croydon have caught the eco friendly fever! With entries flying in thick and fast from pupils at Westwood Language College for Girls, the English summer isn’t the only thing heating up over the holidays; everyone wants their design on the shoulders of Croydon shoppers.

So pens at the ready and get your creative caps on as standards are high and the world is still at risk, check out the latest entries Rachel Ford’s pupils at Westwood have sent to inspire our community to help save our planet.

FashionCapital to interview dynamic design duo Modernist
   

Abdul Koroma and Andrew Jones are the designers behind Modernist. Having formed in 2005 they have shown at LFW twice now taking the London fashion scene by storm.  

AW08 is set to be an exciting time for Modernist, which not only heralds the launch of their accessories range meaning the label has become more accessible but also sees them being stocked at Harvey Nichols- something they are very excited about.


FashionCapital will be talking exclusively to Modernist about their careers in the industry so far and what’s next on the horizon.

The forums on FashionCapital are buzzing and especially the jobs forums which stats prove has reached an all time high. The section has proven invaluable to students looking for work experience, graduates job hunting, designers networking and companies wanting to employ.

Retail News

In retail this week the doom and gloom continues……

High street sales have been reported at an all time low after 25 years! Sales for the time of year have been described as poor by a balance of 46 per cent of firms, and the situation is unlikley to improve next month.

Sales at high street retailer Next fell 6 per cent in the first half of this year and the company stated today that the outlook is unlikely to improve for the second half of the year.

Philippa Rabbits to join FashionCapital  

The latest addition to join the FashionCapital team is Philippa Rabbits who will be on work experience with us for one year.
Philippa is currently studying Fashion and Clothing at South East Essex College and although only in her first year has shown fantastic potential in a variety of areas but her clear talent lying in illustration, photography and graphic design. 

Philippa will be providing FashionCapital with weekly trend boards on What’s Hot, each week illustrating a hot new trend of the moment.

Next struggles to meet sales targets with full retail like for like sales falling 6% for the 26 weeks to July 26 and total sales down 3.9% in the first quarter, increasing slightly by 0.2% giving a fall of 1.8% for the half year, however Next Directory mail order business has seen a 2% increase.
