British Designers at FashionCapital – W1
The pop up shop which launched in December has been a huge success, especially with events such as The Art of Fashion, generating some fantastic press! The original three month lease has now been expanded until May which is fantastic news!
The Great British Wedding event
On the 28th April 2011 British Designers @ Fashion Capital, 2 Seymour place, W1H 7NA, will be holding The Great British Wedding event . We will be showcasing designer bridal collections, Bridesmaids collections, Men?s suits & mother of the bride outfits along with the opportunity to sample some wedding cake & try on bridal accessories, surrounded by some beautiful flower arrangements. BD@FC Bath
Take a butchers at our Bath in Fashion pics, it’s been one full-on week at British Designers, Bath. Our very own Jenny Holloway kicked off the proceedings with her insightful talk ‘From Design Sketch to Shop Floor’, to a fully packed to standing room. This was followed by a project briefing directed at 2nd Year Fashion Design students at Bath Spa University. Anna Coverdale and her team from ‘Fabulous Bijoux’ introduced their latest jewellery collection while show producer John Walford did us proud with a stunning show ‘Fashion & Fizz’ at the Roman Baths. Our designers complete with headpieces by Fifi Venus, looked incredibly elegant against the historic backdrop. If that wasn’t enough boutique manager JoJo was snapped by street style photographers wearing PPQ and we collaborated with Waterstones on Milsom Street with a Live Mannequin event. Film maker Michael Stylianou rounded off the week shooting our two resident models in and around the streets of Bath…watch out for the film which will be screened in the boutique at the end of April.
Meanwhile new in we have new stock from Jean-Pierre Braganza, Louise Amstrup and swimwear label Paolita plus Bath Spa graduate Stefanie England joins us with her range of eveningwear. In the accessories department we have vintage style bags by Cloth Magpie, leather designs from Milo & Saint alongside fresh jewellery from Jolita and Fabulous Bijoux plus, not forgetting to mention, headpieces by Fifi Venus.
Don’t forget its Mother’s Day this Sunday 3rd April so here’s a few ideas…
Summer Dress BrandAlley
If you are an independent designer and would like to make some sales and gain exposure through the well known and highly successful e-tail site BrandAlley then this is your last chance to enter the BrandAlley Bespoke series ‘The Summer Dress’.
We are looking for your interpretation of a Summer Dress with a unique point of difference that is designer and not high street, yet wearable, rather than for the catwalk. Bear in mind the BrandAlley customer as well as the French market in general.
The deadline is drawing closer in we need to have your final submissions by the 12th of April. Early submissions will get some feedback from us so you can have some time to make any improvements.

Buyers meetings
We had a buyers meeting yesterday with Topshop and also with Asos the week before, we will email any feedback to all designers. If you have not recieved feedback yet please be patient we will email you in the next few days. We will be having other meetings with these retailers coming up so please get in touch as we want newness for the next meetings.

Fashion Enter’s How to Succeed in Fashion Today seminar
Fashion Enter’s all day seminar to help new designers succeed in the industry took place today with a series of guest speakers and the Fashion Enter team revealing their expert industry knowledge. The seminar is ideal for designers thinking about becoming a member with Fashion Enter as it provides an opportunity to meet with the team and learn about the services and support available to them. The day also offers a unique insight in topics such as production, marketing, important documentation and how to maximise sales. A huge thank you to Business Mentor Adele Cooke, barrister Christopher Head and manufacturing specialist Nigel Rust.
Bernadette Cronin who attended the seminar today commented:
‘I found the seminar to be like ‘insider information’, all the actual practical things you need to know that others keep secret. The day was varied, learning about starting up a business, sales and costings, what it’s really like to deal with buyers, manufacturers and even employment law. Well and truly worth attending if you are considering fashion design or need help getting your business launched’
This seminar takes place every 6 – 8 weeks and as well as a series of speakers there also includes a visit to The Workshop to meet with the Production Manager to discuss sampling, toiles and production.
