NEWSLETTER 2nd April 2014

Dear all,

More than ever before we are able to promote and inform in an instant thanks to the numerous social media networks out there. Catching my eye on Facebook this week was a post from the ‘Clean Clothes Campaign’ and their latest report “Tailored Wages UK – Are the big brands paying the people who make our clothes enough to live on?” Due to the complexities of the garment industry it is difficult to give a definitive list of which brands are but what the Clean Clothes Campaign has done is profiled 40 companies and looked at the extent of their actions towards a positive and real effect on ethical wages in garment factories. Here is a brief synopsis – it makes for an interesting read.

Tanya Elizabeth is a British born and British manufactured brand that is geared towards meeting the aspirations of the feminine independent women on the go.

With her first collection, Tanya wanted to accentuate the female form by creating feminine and sexy silhouettes whilst adding quirky elements such as colour blocked side panels and dramatic double layered pleating.

Her production is now made at the Factory, and a part of Fashion Enter’s network to support new and emerging brands. Boutique Pick of the Week2_april_jan_knibbs_necklace

Inspired by tattoo imagery, this white/silver statement necklace incorporates a variety of techniques by couture embroiderer Jan Knibbs. Satin forms the structural base while machine embroidery, ribbon flowers and appliquéd motifs adorn the surface and strands of vintage fringing add the finishing touch. Slightly rock chic due to its tattoo roots this piece would give a unique flavour to a festival or casual outfit.

Jan Knibbs is an award-winning fashion and textile designer who specializes in couture embroidery. She creates garments and accessories, especially statement jewellery, incorporating many different techniques combined with vintage treasures and an air of fantasy.
