Newsletter 25th June 2014
Dear all,
Happy Anniversary to our sister company Fashion Enter – now 8-years strong and growing. We are extremely proud to be at the forefront of both production training and the ‘Made in Britain’ revolution.
The Stitching Academy Leads the Way
Decibel Mbatika recently took part in the ASOS / Fashion Capital Stitching Academy last April. It was an amazing experience for Decibel as she learnt many of the basic yet fundamental sewing skills as well as some challenging methods of sewing that helped boost her skills. The Stitching Academy also provided the opportunity for Decibel to be around like-minded people enabling her to boost her confidence and encouraging her to believe in her plans and dreams to become a designer.

Since completing the Stitching Academy course Decibel has gone on to start her own ethical fashion label called ‘JJireh’s Way’ which is progressing slowly but surely. The main garment goal is to begin making and selling arm knitted jumpers and unisex jumpsuits. Whilst she is in the process of sourcing materials for those two pieces Decibel has introduced her brand by making and selling zipper pouches. You can find ‘JJireh’s Way’ at two upcoming events: Glad Rags at the Dissenting Academy which will take place on the 5th of July and the other is the London Permaculture Festival which will be on the 6th of July.

Happy Anniversary Michaela Jedinak
Michaela’s highly successful dress label is celebrating its first anniversary this week. We have been with Michaela every step of the way from her initial collection concept; here is what she had to say about working with us over the last year:
“On the 24th of June Michaela Jedinak celebrated its first year anniversary. In the last year we have been able to receive outstanding coverage as well dressing some amazing leading ladies. All of this wouldn’t have been possible if I hadn’t had the amazing support from Jenny Holloway and her team, who provide me with the highest craftsmanship for my power dresses. Jenny Holloway believed in me from day one and gave me the platform to launch my power dress collection. Her team support me every day by giving their attention to details to my power dresses, which are highly recognised and appreciated by my clients as well supporting me by turning around a dress in short notice. All in all I wouldn’t be here where I am if it wouldn’t have been for the amazing work and support that I was given by Fashion Capital.”

Fashion Enter in the Herald Scotland
Another designer, Rebecca Torres, we have mentored and guided also mentioned Jenny Holloway and Fashion Enter in her recent interview with the Herald Scotland;
Q: Who have been your mentors over the course of your career?
Over the course of my career I have meet some amazing people. Firstly a woman called Jenny Holloway who runs a company called Fashion Enter who discovered my collection that then went into ASOS. She was honest, showed me the ropes and believed in me, which at 24 (at the time) and not having a clue what to do with such an order I needed. She took me under her wing. Sarah Scarce, who was my advisor at Princes Trust, was also another amazing person who helped me along the way with great advice and belief. And I have to say more recently Fiona Chuatard at Fashion Foundry and my mentor during the program Mhairi Taylor from Bebaroque. I’ve just realised all of these are women!

New Direction Visit Fashion Enter
On Tuesday 17th June New Direction paid Fashion Enter a visit to tour the premises and see a live Factory in action for an educational visit.
New Direction, is one of the largest education training specialists in the UK, a group of 34 students from New Direction came to visit the Factory for a guided tour and insight to the life and processes behind a garment.
The visit began with an introduction to Fashion Enter and FashionCapital, the New Direction learners met with Jenny Holloway for a presentation into Fashion Enter, discussing the different aspects of the company and its progression into bringing back UK manufacturing through various training opportunities.
Students were given handouts to fill in to test their learning experience throughout the day; tested on their current knowledge, prior to visiting the Factory students answered questions on the design lifecycle and the step by step of making a garment to finish.
With 70% of all production made within the Factory for online global retailer, ASOS, the students were shocked to hear how many styles and type of garments were made in the UK.

Jenny then announced that students would be able to get up close and observe these current garments being made within the factory below, the students, many of whom had not experienced a live factory setting before were excited to get downstairs and see the ASOS and Marks & Spencer pieces being live in front of them.
Jenny began the tour at the Design Lifecycle, the students were tested on this before heading onto the production floor, Jenny explained each stage, step-by-step while students took note and noticed errors they had made beforehand.
The students were then given a tour of the factory, learning every stage of the production process, students were introduced to staff specialising in each sector, from fabric cutting to pattern cutting.
